Wholesale Carrier Services, Inc. (“WCS”), a leader in enterprise-class SIP communications, today announced that it selected Sonus’ Session Border Controller (SBC) portfolio and Policy solutions as the foundation for its next-generation, end-to-end VoIP network. WCS employs the full Sonus solution to offer Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and PRI trunking services, business voice services and interconnect services across North America and the Pacific Rim, building its new SIP backbone network for its enterprise business, mobile and wholesale carrier services.
“WCS has done an excellent job of distinguishing itself in the highly competitive enterprise services market through its patented telecom lifecycle software and value-added services to large business customers. By owning its own switching operations and adding managed customer services, WCS will be able to grow in a very cost effective manner with Sonus. WCS’ decision underscores the market demand for high session scale, transcoding dense session border controllers,” said David Tipping, vice president and general manager, SBC Business, Sonus. “We have enjoyed completing the transition of WCS to a full voice, video and data service provider and are privileged to help WCS deliver a new class of services to its customers.”
WCS replaced its leased VoIP network with a full Sonus solution. Leveraging SIP, the Sonus-based infrastructure enables WCS to grow its market share by delivering services such as SIP trunking, mobile integration and interconnection to its carrier-class hosted PBX platform. Sonus was selected for its ability to deliver an end-to-end Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network solution that would be easy to manage, upgrade and monetize while providing robust security and interoperability.
The Sonus SBC 5200 and SBC 9000 Session Border Controllers help WCS deliver world-class SIP trunking services, while protecting the company’s network against external threats, unifying SIP and legacy communications, and controlling traffic in the network. The Sonus PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server – a central element of Sonus’ SBCs and VoIP media gateways – helps WCS reduce costs through centralized management and provisioning of all routes and network policies within the core of its network.
“WCS has transformed our business model from a reseller service provider to a truly world-class carrier capable of delivering end-to-end services on our own facilities and operations centers. WCS selected Sonus as our long-term strategic communications partner to build a robust and future-proof network, one that will drive customer loyalty and allow us to offer new value-added services,” said Chris S. Barton, WCS President and CEO.
