Industry Alert: Verizon Union Contracts Expiration - August 6, 2011!!!

Jul 27 2011

Effective Date: August 6, 2011

Who is Affected: All Services and Pending Work Orders

The contracts that currently govern the relationship between Verizon and two of its unions, Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), are due to expire at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, August 6, 2011. Verizon is currently in contract negotiations with these unions. If new agreements are not reached, it is possible a strike could affect WCS-provided services in the following areas:

  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • District of Columbia
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

Verizon plans to continue its wholesale provisioning and repair processes for both voice and data services. Verizon has assigned the tasks of union-represented employees to management employees. Although Verizon plans to operate as close to business-as-usual as possible, WCS may see an impact to our business in the listed regions.

WCS does not have control over the negotiations, nor can we predict the outcome. We will continue to work closely with our leadership contacts within Verizon to minimize potential customer impacts related to installation and repair activities. WCS will continue to keep you apprised of the situation, and you can expect additional relevant information regarding this matter as it becomes available.

Your business is important to us, and we will continue to monitor this situation closely. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your account representative.

Regards,
